Abstract

Natural disasters appear to be occurring with more frequency and becoming more devastating worldwide. However, the 2030 Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a plan of action for people, the planet and prosperity, particularly in relation to climate change. Wind energy investments could be a sustainable alternative to reach the goal of energy for all. It is unclear how sustainable development investments are implemented in wind energy, under the understanding of Partnership for Goals. Based on a qualitative, longitudinal study in Mexico, the findings show that wind energy investment lacks stakeholder partnerships. Absent are access to economic and social benefits from wind energy for people in the same country and disclosure of dysfunctional stakeholders’ understanding of sustainable development in postcolonial context, which are rediscovered as internal, transactional and international colonialism.
