Denmark: Political Communication and Crisis Management Based on a Worst-case Scenario

In Denmark, all political parties supported the first lockdown and border closures. The prime minister and the queen addressed the need for community spirit and care for the weakest, and the Danes recreated a national community by participating in daily singalongs hosted by the state broadcaster. Most Danes complied with the recommendations and guidelines issued by politicians and experts, perhaps due to the record high level of social trust and record low level of corruption in Danish society. However, from summer 2020, primarily young people began ignoring advice to keep distance and meet in small groups, arguing that being together with friends is a human right.
