Abstract
This paper has twin objectives: first, to comprehensively review and map the literature on corporate social responsibility (CSR) across cultures as it has developed over the last decade and second, to explore, examine and outline the multilevel dynamics behind cross- cultural corporate social responsibility (CCSR). Accordingly, we begin with systematically reviewing 29 selected studies based on diverse industries, countries and cultures. Next, we identify and map the dynamics of CCSR that operate at supranational, national, industry, firm, and individual levels. In doing so, we conceptualize culture as the context of CSR and explore the top-down and bottom-up processes at multiple levels that shape CSR approaches of large firms as they function across cultures. Finally, we conclude by discussing some potential questions for future research
