Abstract

[Purpose/Significance]Social media users have gradually shifted from active and positive use to passive and negative use. The traditional information system continuous use theory is no longer sufficient to accurately describe the negative emotions and negative use behaviors of hedonic information system users such as social media. This paper reviews the relevant literature in order to provide a theoretical basis and methodological reference for future research. [Method/Process]A total of 69 relevant English research papers were selected from the Elsevier and Web of Science databases; 45 Chinese papers were retrieved from the CNKI database. The negative emotions and negative behaviors of social media were subdivided, and the research context of negative emotions such as burnout and anxiety and subdivided negative behaviors such as hiding, avoidance, ignoring, and withdrawal of social media users was sorted out. Drawing on the research results of emotions and behaviors in organizational behavior, sociology, marketing, medicine and other fields, the shortcomings of existing research were analyzed, and future research directions were prospected. [Result/Conclusion]The research on negative emotions and negative use behaviors of social media users at home and abroad is still in its infancy, and the intrinsic connection between the two has not attracted enough attention from scholars. At the same time, the research methods are relatively simple. Therefore, this topic deserves in-depth research from multiple perspectives.
