New European Warning, Training and Observing Network for climate Information and Action

Newtonian is designed to turn fragmented responses to climate disinformation into a coherent and practical European capability.
Inspired by the original “Newtonians”, who brought scientific breakthroughs to life through vivid storytelling and hands-on
demonstrations. Newtonian champions the idea that scientific truth must be both discovered and communicated to be embraced
by society. With this vision, the project weaves together four essential threads often left apart: (i) deep insights into the origins,
evolution and spread of climate disinformation, (ii) an AI-powered tool for real-time detection and analysis, (iii) resource-efficient
communication strategies tailored for specific audiences, and (iv) the training of climate scientists and other trusted actors to lead
the science communication onwards. Newtonian will bring these ideas to life by testing them in five unique European cities. Rather
than just responding to isolated incidents, the project will weave together climate disinformation detection, science communication,
and capacity-building across diverse languages, cultures, and institutions. By uncovering what truly works, for whom, and in
which settings, Newtonian will transform these findings into scalable tools, proven interventions, and actionable pathways for
public authorities, media, civil society, and climate scientists to uptake. Ultimately, aspiring to deepen the understanding of climate
disinformation, Newtonian counters its influence with tailored communication tools and techniques, fosters public trust in climate
science, policy, and literacy, and sparks lasting pro-climate behavioural change.
