Eco-COloring VENEER: Sustainable, Recyclable, Scalable

The ECOVENEER project introduces a new category: recyclable coloured veneer. Based on Ecoblaq's patent-pending
technology, veneers are permanently coloured at the molecular level, without pigments, plastics, or surface coatings.
The process combines liquid immersion with vacuum cycles, enabling multiple sheets to be treated simultaneously
while ensuring uniform through-colouring. Controlled process parameters (pH, fluid dynamics, concentrations,
temperature, vacuum, and time) are used to deliver reproducible results. Drying is significantly faster than fuming or
dyeing, reducing energy use and increasing throughput.
Unlike surface treatments, the colour penetrates fully, allowing scratches to be sanded and repaired. Because no
synthetic chemicals are introduced, Ecoveneer remains recyclable at end-of-life, depending only on the substrate
product it is bonded to.
The solution eliminates the need for toxic inputs and energy-intensive transport chains, reduces waste from rejects,
and allows underutilised species (beech, ash) to become viable, reducing dependence on oak. This makes the
technology not only more sustainable but also more resilient against resource scarcity.
