BOTTOM-UP NEBOURHOODS

Bottom-Up NEBourhoods demonstrates how community-led social entrepreneurship can be the main driver for creating sustainable,
inclusive, and beautiful neighbourhoods in line with the New European Bauhaus (NEB). The project will implement four ambitious
demonstration pilots in diverse European urban contexts: Helsinki (FI), Košice (SK), Ancona (IT), and The Hague (NL). In each pilot,
a local Urban Living Lab facilitates a co-creation process, empowering residents (including marginalized groups) to establish social
enterprises that tackle pressing local challenges. These challenges include youth unemployment in Helsinki , social exclusion in Košice ,
the regeneration of cultural heritage in Ancona , and the need for sustainable mobility in The Hague. Bottom-Up NEBourhoods will
generate new scientific evidence on the barriers and drivers for bottom-up NEB initiatives, assess their business cases, and measure their
impact on community well-being and social cohesion. Key results include a "NEBourhoods Social Enterprise Business Blueprint" and
a "NEB Co-Creation Toolkit" designed for replication by a follower network of at least 20 cities. Ultimately, Bottom-Up NEBourhoods
aims to create a scientifically validated and scalable model, moving bottom-up social entrepreneurship from the margins to the mainstream
of urban transformation policy and practice across Europe.
