In a series of eye-tracking studies, we have tested the hypothesis that Westerners attend more analytically to focal objects in a natural scene, while East Asians attend more holistically to backgrounds and the relations between objects. So far, we have collected and analyzed eye-tracking data for participants in Denmark, Russia, and China.
